Oceaneye: Raising awareness by analyzing and mapping marine plastic pollution

Oceaneye is a Geneva-based organization founded in 2010 with the goal of raising broad public awareness about the causes and effects of plastic pollution and of contributing to scientific research.

With this in mind, Oceaneye has set up a participatory science project and provides volunteer boats with scientific equipment to sample the seas randomly. The samples are then sent to the organization’s laboratory to be analyzed, thus enabling Oceaneye to map the marine plastic waste pollution. The association provides data to international organizations and scientists and comprehensive scientific information about the results to the general public as well as to politics and industry.

KYMA sea conservation & researchis part of the partner network and provides Oceaneye with microplastic samples collected from the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea during the annual KYMA expeditions.
