Network

We are actively involved in several networks, international initiatives and scientific bodies to promote the protection of life in the oceans.

Agreement for the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS)

KYMA sea conservation & research is a partner organisation of the conservation agreement and contributes data on both the distribution of whales and dolphins and the pollution of their habitat with plastic.

Alliance of World Scientists

Over 25’000 scientists from 180 countries have joined forces to send a warning to humanity. It describes the consequences of climate change and calls for six concrete steps to be taken to mitigate them. KYMA sea conservation & research Marine conservation biologist, Silvia Frey, is a member of the Alliance and has signed the publication.

Be an Octopus defender

The movement calls for a massive reduction in the use of single-use plastics and is committed to push for lasting solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. The central concern is pollution prevention. KYMA sea conservation & research is associate member of BFFP.

Deep Sea Conservation Coalition (DSCC)

The coalition includes over 100 organisations working together to protect the threatened life in the deep sea. This includes ensuring the long-term health, integrity, and resilience of the deep-sea ecosystems. KYMA sea conservation & research is a member of the global coalition.

Dolphinaria-Free Europe

The coalition of European animal welfare organisations and wildlife experts seeks to eliminate the keeping of cetaceans in captivity in Europe, whilst striving towards greater protection for those still held captive through investigation, advocacy and education. Members of the coalition share the position that wild animals should not be exploited for human entertainment. KYMA sea conservation & research is a member and Silvia Frey is part of the coalition’s management committee.

European Cetacean Society (ECS)

was established in January 1987 and aims to promote and advance the scientific studies and conservation efforts of marine mammals and to gather and disseminate information about them to members of the Society and the public at large. Executive Director of KYMA sea conservation & research, Silvia Frey, as a marine conservation biologist has been a board member of ECS since 2016.

Global Partnership on Marine Litter (GPML)

A multi-stakeholder partnership which brings together all the actors working on marine litter prevention and reduction. KYMA sea conservation & research is member of this global UNEP network.

Ocean & Climate Platform (OCP)

The Ocean & Climate Platform (OCP) brings together more than 90 organisations united around one mission: to disseminate available knowledge on the interactions between the ocean, climate and biodiversity and to advocate for a healthy ocean and a protected climate to national and international decision-makers. KYMA sea conservation & research is a member of OCP.

Ocean for Ecocide Law

In 2023, the organisation Stop Ecocide International founded the Ocean for Ecocide Law network, which campaigns for international recognition of the term “ecocide” in order to create a legal framework for improved protection of the flora and fauna of the oceans. KYMA sea conservation & research is part of this international network.

Transform Bottom Trawling

This international coalition campaigns against the most widespread and destructive fishing method – bottom trawling. KYMA sea conservation & research is part of the coalition calling for, among other things, a ban on bottom trawling in marine protected areas.

Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC)

The Commission was established in 1946 and is dedicated to the long-term conservation of whale stocks. The Scientific Committee generates and collects data as a basis for the Commission’s negotiations.
